The theme for eResearch NZ / eRangahau Aotearoa 2025 is New Horizons: Shaping the Digital Future of Research in Aotearoa. One of the pillars supporting that theme is a focus on how our sector grows and develops our people. On this topic, we'll be starting the discussion a day early, hosting NZ Carpentry Connect as a free pre-conference event — check out more details on that below.

Through NeSI’s platinum membership with The Carpentries, we have had 13 new instructors successfully complete their Carpentries Instructor Training certifications between October 2023 and October 2024! Congratulations to:

The Carpentries is a global program to teach foundational computational and data science skills to researchers. We are thrilled to announce our first two keynote speakers who will be headlining the eResearch NZ / eRangahau Aotearoa conference 2025 programme.Every February, the eResearch NZ / eRangahau Aotearoa conference gathers researchers, IT leaders, and eResearch practitioners to connect, converse, and set direction for future digital research leadership in Aotearoa.

Sara King (AARNet) and Nisha Ghatak (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) led a Birds of a Feather (BoF) unconference session at the recent eResearch Australasia 2024 conference, with support from Amany Gouda-Vossos, Kit Greenhill, Kathryn Unsworth, and Matthias Liffers from ARDC. This session on the Carpentries community kicked off with an engaging icebreaker, where participants identified with various personas in the community, such as trainers, instructors, and learners.
