NeSI has an exciting opportunity available to join our team as a Research Communities Advisor, a critical role within NeSI enabling various Partnerships into the research sector.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the efforts to build an initial macro view of research data in Aotearoa. We were very excited to share preliminary results with contributing institutions earlier this month, discussing the shared pain in completing the exercise and early insights gained.

In July 1998, a workshop was held at Los Alamos National Laboratory to teach researchers how to work more effectively with their data. Today, 25 years later, the idea behind that workshop has grown into The Carpentries -- an international community buiding capacity in essential data and computational skills for conducting efficient, open, and reproducible research.

Another New Zealand Research Software Engineering (NZ RSE) Conference has come to a close, gathering a diverse community to share learnings, challenges and aspirations around writing code and developing applications that enable research.

Earlier this month, Professor Cristin Print was celebrated with a World Class Award at the Kea World Class Awards dinner.Cris’ work in data-intensive molecular work and gene discovery within whole genomes and for diseases such as cancer is recognised globally. His career has spanned many domains, as an educator, researcher, entrepreneur, surgeon, and in governance, all of which he artfully balances in combination.

The World Data System’s International Program Office (WDS-IPO) has appointed Dr. Claire Rye, NeSI's Product Manager - Data Services, as the new Co-Chair for the World Data System Early Career Researchers Network (WDS-ECR Network).

The Government is looking to equip the research sector for a new period of increased collaboration and growth. There are clear drivers for eResearch infrastructure to enable these future aspirations. In light of this, NeSI is looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Analyst to partner with the business and lead the design and delivery of business analytics. You will have a direct impact on the delivery of strategic, operational, reporting and product objectives.
