Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2018 International Research Software Engineer (RSE) Survey. We are thrilled to report that the response was great and the survey was run across 32 countries!

On 13-14 May 2019, The Carpentries welcomed 15 new instructor-trainees into the New Zealand training community. Participants from ESR, NeSI, Victoria University of Wellington, NIWA, Genomics Aotearoa, and Otago University completed the two-day training workshop.

We are very pleased to share with you NeSI’s Annual Review for 2018. Looking back, this year has been focused on consolidation and strengthening of partnerships while developing NeSI alongside New Zealand’s evolving eResearch ecosystem.Our achievements to date, and to come, are made possible through the national collaboration within NeSI of our partners the University of Auckland, NIWA, University of Otago, Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research, and the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment.

NeSI had a wonderful turnout at the Research Software Engineering (RSE) Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) session at eResearch 2019. Hosted by Nooriyah Lohani, NeSI's Research Communities Advisor, attendees included RSEs, people leading a team of RSEs, and researchers with an RSE in their research group.The BoF kicked off with an introduction of the attendees and a discussion of why they relate to RSE community. On 11 March, NeSI’s new Training Coordinator, Megan Guidry, gathered Carpentries instructors, helpers, and training enthusiasts from around NZ for a one-hour Carpentries Community Call.

NeSI / NIWA are seeking an HPC Senior Science Advisor and Platforms Architect to work nationally with scientific communities gathering their High Performance Computing & Data Science (HPC&DS) needs, and to provide strategic advice and expertise to help drive positive change to NIWA and NeSI's shared infrastructure and services platform.The position is based in Wellington, NZ and the deadline to apply is 3 February 2019.
