Call for HPC Access Open - Closes 16 November 2012

Access to NeSI’s HPC Facilities is Open

Applications close 16 November 2012

All New Zealand researchers are invited to apply for access to NeSI’s High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities. The window for applications closes 16 November 2012.  Applications are welcome under the Research allocation class. Visit nesi.org.nz/apply for the application forms.

Open to all

NeSI’s facilities are available to researchers from all disciplines and all institutions. Some of the projects that have used NeSI’s facilities this year include:

  • Massey University researcher Elsa G Guillot has been simulating human genetics
  • GNS Science is modelling risks associated with local tsunami
  • Stephen Duffull’s team at Otago University have investigated methotrexate loss from red blood cells

Multiple-platforms available

NeSI provides several platforms. Each has a different role and is optimal for different tasks. NeSI's facilities (nesi.org.nz/facilities) can cater from problems from tightly coupled through to embarrassingly parallel.

Advice for new researchers

If your research group is unsure about which platform to use, or would like further advice, please use the contact form on our website in the first instance (nesi.org.nz/contact). That form sends an email through to our staff, who will respond as soon as they are able.

Your team is also welcome to attend the NeSI Office Hour. NeSI holds a teleconference for any potential applicants late in the second week of the call. This call's Office Hour will be held from 10-11am, Thursday 15 November.

For research groups investigating whether HPC is a good fit, NeSI recommends submitting an application under the Proposal Development allocation class. This allocation class is designed for evaluation purposes, is available at no cost and can provide 20,000 CPU core hours to all of the platforms. Your research group will be paired with an advisor from NeSI, who can assist you through the process of working with HPC facilities.

Documentation for applicants

Research groups should familiarise themselves with NeSI’s Access Policy (nesi.org.nz/access-policy). This document outlines all information relating to accessing NeSI’s facilities, including pricing, processes, terminology and timing.
