Wellington Positions

NIWA is a leading environmental research institute and key provider of atmospheric, freshwater and marine research and consultancy services in New Zealand. Its IBM p575/p6 HPC requires two systems engineers to support its research activities in climate and other modelling and other research conducted through the NeSI access process.

Systems Engineers manage the large High Performance Computer and provide support to operational and science users on the system. A tertiary qualification in computer science and/or other sciences or equivalent work experience is a must, along with five years' experience in the design, implementation and operation of Linux and/or Unix services. Familiarity with AIX, the IBM HPC software stack, GPFS, CSM, xCAT, TSM, TSM for Space Management, TWM LoadLeveler, and database administration would be advantageous.

Christchurch Positions

BlueFern® at the University of Canterbury is also expanding. BlueFern®has been in existence since mid 2006 beginning as a IBM p575 based computer system and augmented by the addition of the first IBM Blue Gene in the southern hemisphere in mid 2007. Upgrades to BlueFern® in 2011 now include a further 2 rack Blue Gene P (8192 cores) and a substantial (410 core) power 7 system.
