We're evolving our HPC platform to better support your research

We know that computational capabilities and eResearch services are critical to science globally and Aotearoa's prosperity. Users have told us their needs are changing and in response we’ve been lifting our capabilities, exploring new modes of work, and supporting broader access to advanced tools.

When Mahuika Extension's AMD Milan nodes came online in 2021, it was a first step in our evolution of NeSI’s infrastructure and service models.

These resources are important to your work, and we’re committed to delivering accessible, responsive, and flexible national platforms that will propel your research to new heights.

Unlocking a richer array of services

As announced earlier this year, NeSI is upgrading our existing services, growing our technology partnerships, and unlocking a richer array of services beyond traditional HPC.

We’re bringing on more powerful CPUs, next-generation GPUs, enhanced storage capabilities, and new cloud-native development environments. We’ll be sharing more about the specific technology and what it means for your research in the coming months.

When is this happening?

New equipment is being delivered as we speak and we've begun installing components in Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland's Tamaki Data Centre.

We’re going to begin migrating services to the new platform starting in the next month, and we want to work with you now to prepare.

We are prioritising consistent access to service, minimising downtime, and supporting users along the way. We'll also keep you updated as our timelines become firm.

If you are enthusiastic to be among the first groups to try the new platform, please be in touch.

We’re ready to help you prepare

Being ready for the migration is essential. Our goal is to enable a smooth transition, so we’re providing wrap-around support along the way.

Here’s what you can do to start preparing:

Through all this change, we are here to support you to grow your eResearch capability.

We’ll email you directly when there are timeline updates or action required. Otherwise, you can check into our new Platform Refresh page on NeSI's website for high-level progress updates.

Again, if you have any initial questions, concerns, or feedback, please get in touch.
