Job opportunity: Research DevOps Engineer
Manaaki Whenua is seeking a Research DevOps Engineer to work from their Auckland or Christchurch (Lincoln) office. This position would also be part of NeSI's national team.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise and support to research software engineers and DevOps engineers building research tools, products, and platforms, as users of the New Zealand eScience Infrastructure's (NeSI) platforms nationally. The Research DevOps Engineer connects with research teams across Aotearoa, offering guidance and advice, and helping them optimise their deployments' availability, security, and effectiveness.
This is also a rare opportunity to help shape and design NeSI's newest cutting-edge "Flexible HPC" advanced research computing & data platform. This cloud-native infrastructure platform will close the gap for researchers wanting to bridge between highest performance and the broader benefits of cloud computing. As a platform owned and operated within Aotearoa New Zealand's research sector and institutions, you'll join a talented team working to merge technology with the important considerations of cultures and interests that operate well beyond infrastructure.
As a member of NeSI's Support Team, you will work closely with the Platforms and Collaboration & Integration teams to maintain a keen awareness of cloud tooling and IT automation. You will act as an internal power user and subject matter expert, advocating for enhancements to our services. You'll enjoy offering advice and supporting skill building, whether with your peers internally or with your partner research teams and organisations.
This position is permanent, full time and reports to the Manager of eResearch Support at Manaaki Whenua and the Researcher Support Team Lead at NeSI. Whilst this role can work from any MWLR site, we would prefer a candidate that can work from our Christchurch (Lincoln) or Auckland office.

Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will possess a recognised relevant tertiary qualification, e.g., in computing and/or other sciences, with at least 3 years' experience in the design, specification, implementation, or operation of distributed computing and/or data, preferably with some having been mission-critical services.
