Sustainability in research software – a journey lies ahead

Within Aotearoa New Zealand, NeSI has been looking at what we do to enable research communities to truly value the contributions of research software in underpinning contemporary science.

We are not alone in our journey to foster and support sustainability in this space. Last month NeSI Director Nick Jones had the opportunity to connect with and learn from others at the International Funders Workshop: The Future of Research Software. Hosted by the Research Software Alliance (ReSA) and Netherlands eScience Center, participants from more than 45 organisations across the globe explored how to effectively contribute to making research software sustainable.

NeSI Science Engagement Manager, Georgina Rae, sat down with Nick to chat about some of his highlights and key takeaways from attending the event.

Community feedback wanted

A survey is being used to collect feedback from the international scientific community to understand the needs of scientists with regard to funding the development and enhancement of Research Software, as well the associated ecosystems (e.g., training, education, and policy).

If you know any researchers interested in participating in an international consortium to develop software for research, please encourage them to respond to the questionnaire.
