Workshop: Genomics Data Carpentry at UoA
Genomics Aotearoa (GA) and New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) will be running a Genomics Data Carpentry workshop on January 28-29 at the University of Auckland City Campus.
The Carpentries project comprises the Software Carpentry, Data Carpentry, and Library Carpentry communities who share a mission to teach foundational computational and data management skills to researchers.
The focus of this workshop is data management and analysis for genomics research. Come along to learn:
- best practices for organization of bioinformatics projects and data,
- use of command line utilities and tools for analyzing sequence quality and performing variant calling, and
- connecting to and using high performance computing platforms.

This lesson assumes learner has no prior experience with the tools covered in the workshop. However, learners are expected to have some familiarity with biological concepts, including the concept of genomic variation within a population.
Note: you will need to bring along a laptop with software installed, but there are instructions for this (click the main Data Carpentry Genomics Workshop page here and once there click the “Setup” tab for instructions on software installation). There will be people available to help you on the day if you are having problems.
