NeSI team part of ResBaz Aotearoa 2023's week-long programme of 40+ digital skills sessions

ResBaz Aotearoa 2023, a week-long series of digital research skills sessions, has opened registration. More than 40 free and online sessions will run from 26-30 June. All Aotearoa researchers and postgraduate research students from ANY discipline are invited to look at the schedule and register for individual sessions

The programme is a mix of taster and hands-on sessions, with local meetups happening around the country. Topics relate to digital research practice relevant across disciplines, including research data management, Linux command line, writing in LaTeX, advanced computing tools and techniques, using R and RStudio, building a research portfolio website, visual abstracts... and much more.

Day 1 - Monday 26 June

  • 1:00 - 1:50 pm - What is NeSI? New Zealand's National High Performance Computers - Register here

    Learn about the core advanced computing and data resources that NeSI provides, the reasons why they might be suitable for your work, and how your research team can gain access to them.

 

Day 2 - Tuesday 27 June

  • 2:00 - 4:00 pm - Getting Started With the Julia Programming Language - Register here
    Speaker: Anthony Blaom Senior Research Fellow, University of Auckland
    Helper: Dinindu Senanayake, Application Support Specialist, NeSI

    Users will learn how to carry out basic mathematical and statistical operations; how to create custom workflows by learning about functions and basic iteration; and how to perform basic data manipulation and visualization.

 

Day 5 - Friday 30 June 

  • 1:00 - 4:00 pm - Introduction to High Performance Computing with NeSI - Register here

    Get a hands-on introduction to high performance computing (HPC) on a NeSI supercomputer. You'll be guided through the fundamentals, including software environment modules, scheduler use, profiling and scaling. We recommend you attend 'Introduction to the Command Line' session if you're not already familiar with navigating a command line Linux environment.
