Installation underway to expand Mahuika capacity and capabilities

Earlier this year NeSI announced an upgrade and extension of Mahuika to bring together new tools and technologies to keep pace with today's increasing diversity of research drivers, including growth in data, complexity of models, and a spread of maturity across research communities.

Over the last couple of weeks, the High Performance Computing Facility at Greta Point has been a hive of activity as NeSI, NIWA, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) team members began installing the newly arrived kit and components. For more information on the extension's technical specs, click here.

Below are a few snapshots from the installation process.

Next steps

Once all the final pieces are in place, HPE engineers will begin performance testing. Once those tests are passed, the NeSI platforms team members will begin installing additional operating system software and tools.

We'll keep you updated as we finalise and progress through the upcoming tasks and timelines, especially once we get closer to having a production-ready system for researchers to access.
