NeSI is looking for an experienced DevOps and Integration Programmer to join our team on a fixed term (6 months) basis. The Carpentries is a global program to teach foundational computational and data management skills to researchers. New Zealand trains several potential Carpentries Instructor trainees every year and it is time to train a new cohort of future instructors.Our next Carpentries Instructor training course will be held virtually on March 5,6,7 and 8 from 2pm to 6pm NZT.

Nisha Ghatak, NeSI Research Communities Advisor and Training Lead, has been elected to the Board of Directors of The Carpentries, a global community focused on teaching coding and data science skills to researchers worldwide. It's an exciting opportunity to leverage the voices of South Pacific training communities as well as help bridge international knowledge or collaborations into local initiatives.
When Cyclone Gabrielle blew through Aotearoa in February 2023, it unleashed unprecedented rainfall, triggered widespread flooding and landslip events, and caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure across northern and eastern regions of the North Island. With many affected areas, businesses and individuals still recovering from Cyclone Gabrielle's effects, it was a timely real-world example to incorporate into the Antarctic Science Platform's (ASP) 2023 Winter School in September.

From 16-20 October, members of the NeSI team attended the 2023 eResearch Australasia Conference to learn from peer experiences across the Australian sector as well as share insights from our collaborations within Aotearoa New Zealand.It was inspiring to hear and talk about:experiences and best practice around research data - locating it, measuring it, and managing it lessons learned and status updates on service management approaches to research products and infrastructures
