Data science and machine learning in research emerge as top themes at 2019 Science Coding Conference
This September was the first time NeSI hosted its Science Coding Conference at the University of Canterbury in the garden city of Christchurch. The event was held over 2 days (5th and 6th of September) and a full day of workshops the day before (4th September).

In late July/early August, I travelled to Chicago, Illinois to attend the annual Practices and Experiences in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) Conference.The conference series provides a forum for participants in the research computing community to discuss challenges, opportunities, and solutions in ‘cyberinfrastructure’ (aka eResearch; Advanced Research Computing, Research IT). PEARC19 hosted more than 800 registrants, and more than 100 student attendees.
During 29-30 July, I had the opportunity to represent NeSI and New Zealand at the Australian eResearch Skilled Workforce Summit in Sydney, Australia.
