What is The Carpentries?
The Carpentries is a community-centric organisation committed to teaching foundational coding, and data science skills to researchers worldwide. In New Zealand, the Carpentries community is growing as more institutions and universities run Software Carpentry, Data Carpentry, and Library Carpentry workshops and have staff attend instructor training sessions. It is crucial to note that all members of the Carpentries community including workshop hosts, instructors, and learners follow this code of conduct because creating a safe space for learners is key to growing a healthy, supportive community. Check out the Carpentries website to know more about the organisation.
What to Expect at the Community Call on 4 October?
A Carpentry Connect event cannot go ahead without input from the community, so on 4 October we will meet for one hour to brainstorm what this day of engagement and connection could look like. We are a fan of diverse perspectives and quirky ideas so please come along to share your ideas and meet other members of the community. All are welcome!
Is any preparation needed for this call?
No prep is required, but If you have been to a fun event in the past or know of great team-building activities, we’d love to hear about it! Please bring along your great ideas to share it with us!
If you have any questions please reach out to nisha.ghatak@nesi.org.nz
